How Scentsy Became Part of Finding Myself Again
My story from 2019 to now
If you had told me in early 2019 that Scentsy would become such a huge part of my life, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.Because when I joined Scentsy, I wasn’t looking for a business.I wasn’t looking to build a team.I definitely wasn’t imagining travelling away with women who would eventually become some of my closest friends. At that point in my life I was simply trying to cope.

Where I Was in 2019
In 2019 my mental health was at one of its lowest points.I reached a point where I tried to end my life. That isn’t something I say for sympathy, and it isn’t the easiest part of my story to share, but it is an important part of understanding where I was when Scentsy came into my life.My world had become very small.I didn’t have a big circle of friends. I didn’t have family around me waiting to buy from a new business. Most of my days revolved around home and homeschooling Jordan.I was mentally exhausted and I had lost a lot of myself somewhere along the way.Back then I also hated having my photo taken, which is probably why there aren’t many photos of me from that time. Looking at the few I do have now, I can see just how different I felt in myself.
How Scentsy Found Me
Scentsy wasn’t completely new to me. My daughter Jamie had sold it previously, so I was already buying and using the products. What happened next definitely wasn’t planned. After I had spoken privately to my biological father about what I had been going through, he told my half sister, who was selling Scentsy at the time. She rang me and told me she had signed me up.Yes. Apparently I was now a Scentsy Consultant.I can laugh about the way it happened now, but at the time I was absolutely not sitting there thinking I was ready to start a business.I wasn’t even sure I was ready to deal with people.
Julien Told Me to Give It a Go
I spoke to Julien and told him what had happened.Instead of telling me it was a ridiculous idea, he said something that ended up changing a lot more than either of us realised at the time.Give it a go.He suggested taking $200 from our family budget, advertising some free samples and seeing what happened. So that is exactly what I did. There was no huge launch. No customer list.No big group of friends or family waiting to order.Just $200, some samples and a woman who really didn’t know whether any of it was going to work.Slowly, people started responding. Then people started ordering. And bit by bit my little Scentsy business began to grow.

It Became Something That Was Mine
The sales were lovely, of course. But something else was happening that mattered even more.Scentsy gave me something to focus on.It gave me conversations with adults. It gave me people to talk to who weren’t part of my immediate household. And most importantly, it gave me something that was mine.I love my family fiercely, but somewhere along the way my whole identity had become wrapped around being Mum and homeschooling Jordan.Scentsy gave Liane a little piece of her life back.At first it was samples and customers. Then it became friendships, training events, team members and experiences I never expected to have.

Then 2020 Happened
When COVID arrived in 2020, my Scentsy business took off. What had started as something I wasn’t even sure I wanted to try grew into a business with a team of more than 80 consultants.I began attending Scentsy training events in person and meeting women I had previously only known through the business. Some of those women became genuine friends. We laughed together, travelled together, learnt together and supported one another through things that had absolutely nothing to do with wax and warmers.

Not Every Year Looked the Same
Of course, it hasn’t all been perfect.Over the years sales have risen and fallen. My team has changed. Some friendships have changed too. There have been people who surprised me in wonderful ways and others who eventually showed me sides of themselves I hadn’t expected. That hurt at times, but it also taught me a lot about who I wanted around me and what mattered most.Seven years is a long time and no business or friendship stays frozen exactly as it began.Today my business looks different from those huge growth years, but I’m still here.
What Changed in Me
When I look at what has happened to me since 2019, that’s where I see the biggest change. My mental health is probably 90 per cent better than it was back then.My life no longer revolves entirely around homeschooling and caring for Jordan.Twice a year I head away with my Scentsy family.I’ve lost around 50 kilograms.I’m slowly rebuilding my confidence.I’m travelling more.I’m meeting people.I’m laughing more.I’m discovering who Liane is again. And yes, I’m still completely obsessed with things that make my house smell good. Some things apparently never change.
